Description
From Anthropology Smith Scrapbook: Looking northward from the point on the south side of the harbor at Wrangel, showing a crab box and a boat. In the second week's work in the taking of crabs in Alaskan waters for the market. These were being taken by Mr. Cash Colter, the Wrangel meat man, at the suggestion of Mr. Henry J. In the distance may be seen the eastern end of the town of Wrangel and the island on which Chief Shakes's house stands. The pole near the house on the hill is shown in No. 46117. The saw mill shown in No. 46108 does not show in this picture. The church steeple at the left is the one shown in No. 46113. Shakes's house which is seen in No. 46120 is the near and large house over the stern of the boat tied to the crab cage, immediately to the right of this may be seen the near pole shown in No. 46126, passing further to the right past the fronts of two houses and behind the picket fence may be seen the far pole shown in No. 46126.
