Man under shelter
Description
Objects organized on racks of wood | The mapingo was an oracle used by the Mangbetu and neighboring groups. The outcome of the oracle depended on the movement of the oiled sticks, always arranged in groups of three. The mapingo was consulted frequently for a variety of problems, from a chief's political questions to a hunter's query regarding the success of a planned hunt.
