Title
Pot, ceramic, Zande (Azande) people of Africa
Description
Black oil, made by women from oil-palm kernels, was stored in pots such as this. Both men and women rubbed the thick black oil over their bodies as part of their toilet. Leaves and twigs were used to perfume the oil. Although Lang collected this pot in Medje, it was imported into the southern Mangbetu area from the Azande to the north.
