This pot, with its elongated head, coiffure, and facial decorations, is in the classic Mangbetu anthropomorphic style. Found on knives, figures, harps, pipes, boxes, and other objects, this form is a stylized representation of the way fashionable Mangbetu women adorned themselves in the early years of this century.
