Title
Hat, plant fiber, feathers, and leaves, Mangbetu people of Africa
Description
According to Lang, hunters wore this type of hat as a sign of mourning for the death of an okapi. The hat provided protection against illness or even death caused by the avenging power of the animal. The hats were woven in the forest by the hunters and worn long after their return to the village.
Materials: Plant fiber, feathers.
