Description
James P. Chapin, an ornithologist, was assistant to Herbert Lang on the American Museum's Congo Expedition. Chapin was only eighteen years old when he sailed with Lang for Africa in 1909. After returning from the expedition, Chapin wrote "Birds of the Belgian Congo." He went on to become a curator and chair of the Department of Ornithology at the American Museum of Natural History.
