Title
Porters of the Congo Expedition, Niangara
Description
The Congo Expedition employed over 38,000 porters in the course of its six years, making it one of the largest employers in the region during that time. Porters worked only in the vicinities of their villages, and for a few days at a time. There were eighteen men, however, whom Lang and Chapin trained as field assistants. Throughout the expedition these men hunted and trapped animals and prepared specimens for the museums collections.
